Before the pour
Anything that has to pass through the concrete, such as large pipes, conduit and sleeves, must be set before the pour. Mark and brace them, and check them on the walk-through.
Penetrations cut afterward are harder and weaken the wall.
Electrical
Electricians cut chases in the foam with a hot knife or router, run conduit and set boxes. Boxes are secured to the foam or to furring. Plan outlet and switch heights before the walls go up.
Keep conduit within the foam, not in the concrete core.
Plumbing and mechanical
Plumbing is usually run in interior stud walls or in chases in the foam, and exterior penetrations are sleeved and sealed. Mechanical openings are planned in advance and flashed.
Let the mechanical contractor mark openings on the plans early.
Finishes
Drywall attaches to furring strips in the foam. Exterior finishes attach through the form ties or to a coating system. Coordinate the barrier and flashing before stucco or siding goes on.
Check the finish manufacturer’s requirements for the substrate.
